Light Therapies

Red and Blue light therapy

The Upper Hutt Skin Clinic provide Blue and Red Light Therapy for the treatment of acne, skin rejuvenation, reducing redness and to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

The Upper Hutt Skin Clinic offer Blue and Red Light Therapies delivered by our LED light system. LED lights are the most effective way of delivering light therapy. LED light treatment is safe and causes no side effects.

Our LED system delivers the naturally occurring wavelengths of Blue Light (405-420nm) and Red Light (620-660nm).

Light Therapy is simple and painless and provides proven benefits for the treatment of acne and skin rejuvenation. Treatment involves relaxing under the Red or Blue Light for 20 minutes.

Blue Light Therapy

Blue Light Therapy is a useful treatment in the management of ACNE. It is a safe and non-invasive treatment which takes 20 minutes.

The Blue Light activates natural chemicals found in the bacteria which cause redness in acne (Propionobacterium acnes). When stimulated, these chemicals destroy the bacteria. This helps to reduce ACNE breakouts in conjunction with a good skin care regime.

It is important for best results to have a full skin management plan to manage oil production on the skin and to unblock pores.

What to expect at your treatment :

  •    Remove make up and cleanse skin
  •    Goggles placed over eyes for protection
  •    Relaxing and painless
  •    Maybe temporary minor redness, swelling or drying of the skin after the treatment
  •    Can usually reapply makeup after treatment
  •    A course of treatment twice a week for 4 weeks is recommended

Caution : not to be used with patients who have Prophyria or Lupus

Recommended Treatment: two sessions per week for four weeks.

Red Light Therapy

Red Light Therapy (also called Low Level Laser Therapy) is used for Skin Rejuvenation. Red Light therapy helps to naturally enhance tissue recovery through increased blood flow, collagen stimulation, decreasing inflammation and activating the lymphatic system. It also has positive effects on wound healing and general well-being.

Visible red light is capable of penetrating the skin to a depth of about 8 to 10 mm. Once absorbed, the light energy is converted to cellular energy, stimulating the body’s natural processes on a cellular level which stimulates metabolic events.

The Upper Hutt Skin Clinic use red light therapy for:

  • Skin rejuvenation
  • Enhanced healing –  pre and post-surgery
  • Chronic wound healing
  • Rosacea
  • Psoriasis
  • Scar therapy
  • Improved skin complexion
  • Improved skin tone and texture
  • Overall hydrating and lifting effect
  • Increased collagen density
  • Reduced signs of wrinkles and fine lines

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) for the treatment of acne

LED light therapy can also be used with ALA for a full skin peel. This treatment is called PDT.

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) in conjunction with allmedic products is used to treat acne and to improve the appearance of mild to severe sun damaged, oily, blemished and aged skin on all areas of the body. By using LED light, the Doctors at the Upper Hutt Skin Clinic offer PDT as an option which is suitable for a range of skin conditions in a fast, relatively painless and affordable way with minimal side effects and downtime.

A photo active substance (ALA), which occurs naturally in our bodies is applied to the affected area. When applied to the skin, this substance is absorbed into abnormal or damaged cells. Once absorbed, LED light  is focused on the treated area for a period of time. When exposed to light, the abnormal skin cells are destroyed to reveal new, fresh, healthy skin cells. Best results are achieved if allmedic™ repair products have been used for at least two weeks prior to treatment.
