How we can help with your acne
January 26th, 2021Acne can cause distress and embarrassment but can be successfully treated with the correct management to prevent breakouts which cause acne scarring. Upper Hutt Skin Clinic does an assessment and management plan with the allmedic™ range of skincare products, oral and topical therapies, Blue Light Therapy, Photodynamic therapy and micro-needling for treatment of scarring.
Research shows that controlling acne can prevent future outbreaks and scarring. This can result in clearer skin and improved self-esteem and confidence. Successful treatment of acne requires an initial assessment, the correct skin care plan and appropriate topical or oral medication.
What is acne?
Acne can be an annoying and embarrassing problem. It is usually a short term problem which affects mainly younger people when they have oily skin. Pores become blocked and inflamed and affected by bacteria leading to painful pimples and sometimes scarring. Often people buy numerous over-the-counter products which can cost a lot of money and don’t really help.

If you have a more severe case of acne with scarring you may be offered Photodynamic Therapy Treatment (PDT) or Blue Light Therapy
Before
After allmedic™ + PDT
Light Therapy
Light Therapy is simple and painless and provides proven benefits for the treatment of acne. Treatment involves relaxing under the Blue Light for 20 minutes. It is a safe and non-invasive treatment which takes 20 minutes. The Blue Light activates natural chemicals found in the bacteria which cause redness in acne (Propionobacterium acnes). When stimulated, these chemicals destroy the bacteria. This helps to reduce acne breakouts in conjunction with a good skin care regime.
Upper Hutt Skin Clinic say it is important for best results to have a full skin management plan to manage oil production on the skin and to unblock pores, with the recommended treatment being two sessions per week for four weeks.
Photodynamic Thearapy Treatment (PDT) for Acne
Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a proven treatment option for more severe cases of acne when used in conjunction with allmedic products. A photoactive substance (ALA), which occurs naturally in our bodies is applied to the affected area. When applied to the skin, this substance is absorbed into abnormal or damaged cells. Once absorbed, LED light is focused on the treated area for a period of time. When exposed to light, the abnormal skin cells are destroyed to reveal new, fresh, healthy skin cells.
